Surge in Nigerians Immigrating to Canada

Several factors explain the rise in Nigerian immigration to Canada

Since the decline in global oil prices in 2014, the oil-rich nation has seen its economic growth slowed. Nigeria’s economy was growing by around 5 % per year leading up to 2014, but growth has since weakened to around 2 per cent annually.

As US impose a ban to some countries including Nigeria from immigrating to the country in February, more Nigerian professionals as a result have sought to come to countries such as Canada. Canada is an attractive destination for Nigerians because it offers diverse economic opportunities.

Professionals in Nigeria may qualify under Express Entry’s due to their high education English language Proficiency and professional work experiences which are all factors considered under the Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS).

Nigerians first language is English which has a significant advantage under Express Entry compared with most other nationalities since English-language proficiency comprises a major component of the CRS.

Oil rich countries in the world are experiencing oil prices drop, which will create economic challenges for countries like Nigeria.

Canada expects an increase of Nigerian immigrants after the Covid-19 Pandemic.

It is estimated that the  pandemic of the coronavirus  will probably last for  6 months. Once the coronavirus no longer poses a threat after containment of the virus, there will be a surge of Nigerian immigrating to Canada.
